Today we have a chance of reminiscing that era –our heritage pre colonial –Kenya colony and our Jubilee cerebrations -the future and better day ahead welcome……..
We leave the city of Nairobi behind precede onwards to the Kiambu County. Kiambethu farms a lush and lovely tea estate in the highland of Limuru. Lunch at Kiambethu Farms hosted by Fiona Vernon a granddaughter of the original settler who still produces leaves of the same variety that her grandfather grew the tea growing pioneer almost a century ago. After lunch we travel back to the city to of Karen named after Karen Blixen, author of 'Out of Africa'. Her beautiful farmhouse built in the early 19th century is now the Karen Blixen Museum, comprise of a garden and tea house, it depicts the history of the famous author. Also in Karen is the African Butterfly Research Institute, a large magical greenhouse alive with native butterflies.The Nairobi National Park situated south of the city with an area of 114 sq km. It has over 400 bird species, lions, leopards, and a thriving population of black rhino.
This morning we will take a scheduled flight from Nairobi - Wilson’s to Laikipia where we are going to spend the next three days. Laikipia Plateau is to the north west of the snowcapped Mt. Kenya straddling the equator at the heart of Kenya’s Rift Valley Province. Laikipia has a unique combination of dry and cool weather, set on the foothills of both Mount Kenya and the Aberdare highlands.The Laikipia plains stretch from the Great Rift Valley to the magnificent escarpments that descends to the Northern Frontier District. The variety of large mammals is higher than any other area with elephants, rhino, grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, Lelwel hartebeest, wild Dog and a large number of other predators. Upon arrival, your guide will take you to one of Kenya’s early ranches. Laikipia supports seven heavily protected rhino sanctuaries, which together hold over half of Kenya’s black rhino population.
We leave the Laikipia after a very rewarding safari experience and drive further south to the Aberdare National Park a virgin mountainous forest for one night stay. The Aberdare National Park is home to the Aberdare Mountain marked by V shaped valleys covered by pristine lush vegetation with streams and rivers cascading over spectacular waterfalls. The Aberdare Mountains,home of ‘Ngai’ the God of the Kikuyu people and a multitude of elephant, buffalo, giant forest hog and the endangered black rhino. The Aberdares are an excellent area for spotting the elusive leopard and occasional sightings have been made of the Golden cat. Black and white Columbus monkeys and Sykes monkeys are easily seen swinging acrobatically from one tree branch to the next, as are waterbucks, bushbucks, reedbucks, duikers, and serval cats. Accommodation in one of the famous Tree Hotel in the world where a young princess i ascended into the lodge and the following day descended a Queen in the British monarchy
Departing from the Aberdare National Park to the base hotel where you pick your bag and link with our driver/guide and head onwards to the Rift Valley. For the next three days we will visit the parks in this area Hells gate National Park, Lake Nakuru National Park and Hells gate which offers a totally different encounter. The rift valley is area of beautiful landscapes, craggy cliffs and vast open spaces, a region of diverse and full of opportunities for exciting activities. One of the highlights whilst staying at the private bush home is a day trip to the picturesque Lake Nakuru National Park. Park fees are to be paid direct at the park entrance gate.
After breakfast, we depart from the Great Rift Valley for the world famous Masai Mara Game Reserve where we will spend the next three nights. With its vast open plains and distinctive flat-topped acacia trees, no visit to Kenya would be complete without a visit to the Mara. Afternoon game drive after settling in a small intimate safari camp - our base for our time here. Then we make our way into the reserve in search and with excellent chances of seeing the "Big 5" - lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant and rhino. Optional balloon safari and drift over the animal kingdom viewing wild game through a kaleidoscope even visit a Masai village for a cultural immersion this ancient culture under the threat of modernization.
Depart for Nairobi after breakfast you will be transferred to the airstrip where you will board a charter flight to Nairobi’s Wilson Airport. After dinner, you will be transferred to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in time to check in for you overnight homebound flight.
